I was born in Smith Falls Ontario. The Ottawa Valley is where I learned about nature with my Grandfathers. My Mother's father taught me about birds. He was a quiet Naturalist. My father's father was a skilled artist from Europe. He inspired me to begin painting at age 7. I have taken some courses in Art, however, I am pretty much self-taught. After over 30 years of practice I feel I have a good grasp of my brushes and paints. In the past I have worked with water colours and done many florals. Acrylic paint has been my favorite medium for the last few years as it is so forgiving and allows me to create textures and depth through layers of paint. I have spent many years painting birds. They have taught me much. Owning a dog changed who I am and lead to the portraits of our canine friends. As I enter a new phase of my life my art reflects that. I have moved to landscape paintings . I am enjoying more freedom as I express the moods of Eastern Ontario. My memories of sitting in the backseat looking out the window on our journeys along Highway # 7 are coming to the surface with each of these painting. These new paintings are a new adventure for me. I hope they hint at something in you as well.
